Jon Cambeul
Jon began building and exhibiting interactive electronic assemblages from recycled computers sensors and CCTV equipment 8 years ago. He is now a part of the collective someth;ng.
I started building interactive sound sculptures around the time of 1997. These were what I called assemblages. They were constructed from found electronic hardware from old computers, printers, photocopiers, to sound recording equipment and CCTV cameras.
My themes of the assemblages were to create automated public machines very much like vending a machine. The first main project was to create what I called the Auto-Confessionals. The style of the first confessional was influenced by Russian Icons. It used an appropriated CCTV camera, mini printer, pocket TV, and a Mind-Lab machine, which was a relaxation device to be worn like sunglasses.
The setting for this device usually were Alternative festivals, performance art, and club venues around London. It was after the experience of seeing the first Auto-Confessional assemblage in action that I decided to create second using DJ sampling and midi equipment, a CCTV camera, and a g3 computer.
I now have branched into writing software for audiovisual applications for live performance, such as gesture based musical instruments, installations for art and music festivals.
Currently I am developing sonic art sculptures and collaborating as a collective called Someth;ng. My interests are to create assembleges for the performance of electronic music.
