In The Field, Location-based Sonic Art Projects

In The Field presents three location-based sonic art projects.

In The Field presents three location-based sonic art projects. Broadcasting from the glittering mirror tiled boat, Celestial Radio voyaged around the coast of Britain in search of the answers to lifes big questions. For Threshold, artists Walker and Bromwich, will present an installation documenting audio & images from this unique journey, which they entitled How the Universe Synthesised itself into Being.

Sounds from Above by Duncan Speakman treats the personal stereo as petri-dish, and the headphones as microscope, breaking down the links between place and the transient nature of sound. For this initial investigation he looks at how site-specific sound work can become a commodity, and how sound allows us to position ourselves both spatially and socially in an environment.

Radio Taxi was an RSL broadcast on 87.7FM from Taxi Gallery - literally a London Black Cab situated outside a semi-detached council house in Cambridge, UK. It broadcast a live(ly) mix of locally originated programmes, music, sound art and field recordings from all over the world, incorporating responses and contributions made by visitors to the studio. Radio Taxi was initiated by Taxi Gallery curator, Kirsten Lavers with Simon Keep and cris cheek as resident artists. The installation of Radio Taxi archive fragments for In the Field will evoke its subtle infiltration of a suburban neighbourhood.
