Threshold

A new installation at inIVA by Faisal AbduAllah and Charlie Dark.

'My shadow never speaksÂ….' Sheku Fofana, 10 years

Threshold, a new light and audio installation by Faisal AbduAllah and Charlie Dark which explores the residue of memory, derived from a series of artists workshops with young people. Light and sound transform into a tangible presence through the play of shadow and whispers, luminosity and vibration.

A totality of space, dense with sound is framed by shadow and darkness. Into this totality, light becomes both fluid and form; an illuminated membrane that fractures the physical space and interacts with it. The aural environment is layered with the fragments of voices, shadowed forms and hidden traces, adding another corporeal dimension.

Threshold emerged from a mixed media project with A Space in collaboration with Year 6 students from Shacklewell Primary School. Archiving a moment of change and departure through examining the construction of historical legacies and personal narratives - the artists worked with the students to form the concept for Threshold. Sounds and forms gathered from workshops have been incorporated into the final work.

An audio brochure made in collaboration with all participants and partners, containing a remix of the sound element in the installation by Charlie Dark will accompany the exhibition.
