Workshop: Quartz Composer for Artists

An overview of basic, intermediate and advanced capabilities of Quartz Composer. The workshop will interest multimedia artists and VJs, motion graphic artists, and anybody who wishes to engage with computer art and by programming visually, rather than typing code.

Quartz Composer is a visual programming environment designed to exploit the multimedia processing power of contemporary graphics cards. It is at once simple and complex - capable of far more than 2D & 3D image and video manipulation. With MIDI and Open Sound Control patches you can interface the visual compositions with sensors and external hardware; with RSS, XML, image downloader and Network Broadcaster patches you can distribute data across networks. An online community are extending the functionality of Quartz Composer to include exciting capabilities such as 3D worlds, face recognition and motion detection - all in a free tool!
